I have been in Sweden 2 times before, but I think I might go again after reading this.

I’m curious to read the book Lagom. I agree there has to be a balance between too much and too little. I think every society across the world has the same issues. That’s the beauty of travel – you find the same kind of people everywhere, but wrapped in different cultures, traditions and beliefs.

He too fell in love with Sweden and became so besotted he even tried to learn the language and move there. There’s just something so appealing about the culture and way of life. Mark also agrees with the comment about the society needing to iron out its integration issues; he still has many friends in Sweden and often hears of the tensions caused by immigration and asylum seekers, and by a nation anxious to preserve their identity. A work in progress, as with many other countries in recent times. Thanks for such an interesting interview and for highlighting all the reasons why Mark loves this country so much. We’re hoping to get a copy of Lola’s book very soon; lagom is the way forward! 🙂

I live that Lagom Life in many ways. Loving what I do has me being happy with my life because the work is the reward. I have no need to stack things, to stockpile things, to hoarde things and to own things. I basically own a few week’s worth of clothes, my Chromebook, phone, a few small things, money, investments, and that is about that.

Forced minimalist because I am a digital nomad 😉

I have seen that having too little is almost impossible too. If you want to live a worldly life it is nice to have ample money to enjoy, and to use to stack your savings too, but save stacking that chedda, you can literally own a few things and be as happy as a lark. I own no home, or car, and my friends in the USA who live more traditional lives look at me and admire my gig.

On the flip side though, it does help to have means enough so you need not live in hovels aka terrible hostels, and so you don’t need to live off of $2 a day street food that has you racing for the toilet every 2 hours 🙂 Gotta make some money, or simple allow in money based on the service you render, through your blog.

The Swedish culture has fascinated me. Save a 2 hour layover in Stockholm I have spent no time in the land. Gotta change that. I do recall speaking to a Swedish women when I lived in Fiji. She was nice, genial and engaging, but noted how in Sweden, although folks are friendly enough they are not super chatty, often looking ahead or at the ground in a public setting.

Kinda different from Americans like myself who tend to be more chatty, engaging and talkative in a public setting. Much of this has to do with confidence but of course, the confidence is colored by culture. I grew up in New Jersey. If I didn’t speak up or open up, I’d have been drowned out by the 10 million other NJ-ites in this tiny state.

Cool post guys! Happy to tweet this.

Thanks for sharing 🙂

Ryan
